And here is the cross-over tube differences as posted on Jeep Draw. As far as I understand, the taller cross over tube went with the AC pancake air filter and the middle one with the Oakes aircleaner with applied decal. Please confirm this comment!!!

Those early blocks don't look like the ones fitted to 6008.

Here are some details of Tractor12's VEP including a side shot showing remnancet to the early yellow type star painted on the side as used by the US Army armored corps vehicles pre-July 1942. I've highlighted the outline
And the star on the hood

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
Here is my glove box lid. It came with my VEP, but was not attached. I cannot confirm it is an early lid, but it is a FORW with original data tags riveted on. Unfortunately the meaningful plate is replaced by an M-38 plate. The hole is 3/4" in diameter and 3/4" from the upper edge to the top of the lock hole. Can someone measure their hole(So to speak ) The lock was not keyed.

Based on this I am going to change the keyed lock to not a 100% rule. Can you post an image of your glove box?Spencer54 wrote:Literally just pulled a 4-20-1942 apart completely.
It had a green Sheller, and has F marks everywhere, but weirdly not many F script bolts.
Bolts appear to be plain, although the bolts on the gearbox/Transfer/axles are definitely F marked.
My glove box has no key - has original data plates on it, but has a keyed ignition.
Bumperette is F marked, as was the steering box, chassis, radiator, bellhousing.
I'm not 100% sure this wasn't a refurb candidate as it has a MB motor, but everything else is Ford apart from one front leaf spring.

17th, your door looks like the later type. The early key lock type has the hole almost in line with the top edge where as the later type has the hole above the top edge.
If I can get on my computer I can illustrate and also post photos of my hood blocks.

Diameter of the support washer on top of the AC air filter horn looks to be about 1 1/4"

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
Forget what the glove box door looks like...look at the dash just above where the lock goes...if there is a slotted hole then you have a push button style TUB.
