VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
I know this has been discussed on a few other threads, but the information is sporradic(as far as central location of all data that is). My hope is that members with VEP GPWs post images of these differences in this thread. Please discuss your VEP and how it correlates with the list taken from a 2007 post and please add some images from your VEP to illustrate the markings and peculiarities.
I will begin with my basket case and start adding from the parts I am collecting over the next few years. For now I'll begin with the list and then start adding images of the items from the list as I find them. Hopefully this will turn into a VEP info source.
If I missed some other fantastic thread somewhere moderator, please delete this.
Here is the list, please comment on it and start adding images

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
I think the first Steering wheels were Sheller Black and then Green later.
The rear drive shaft should be thin as far as I know, mine certainly is.
Not sure on the rear bumperettes, I asked this question last week but I've not had a clear answer really. My jeep came with one of each so not much help. I may go with ford.

Just talked to someone pulling apart a vep. So far all 5/16th bolts gave no f heads. It has a gpw generator splash shield. No bumperettes on the frame.

Thanks for that link. Got one. Saw an earlier discussion regarding "F" marked bolts with the same result. Not all bolts on VEP are marked.

What have you found regarding the use of zinc chromate primer? Color Yellow, medium green or green?tractor12 wrote:About a 1/4 of veps have been found with green Sheller steering wheels. Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
Literally just pulled a 4-20-1942 apart completely.
It had a green Sheller, and has F marks everywhere, but weirdly not many F script bolts.
Bolts appear to be plain, although the bolts on the gearbox/Transfer/axles are definitely F marked.
My glove box has no key - has original data plates on it, but has a keyed ignition.
Bumperette is F marked, as was the steering box, chassis, radiator, bellhousing.
I'm not 100% sure this wasn't a refurb candidate as it has a MB motor, but everything else is Ford apart from one front leaf spring.

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
That's great info. Thanks for posting. It seems VEP restorers don't have to get too concerned about F bolts, but the unmarked bolts are interesting. Do they have a small dimple at the top or are they completely flat? Any posted images you have would be helpful

classic view of the rear of a VEP GPW. Nice details, note the rear bumper mod to tow a grader

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
Thanks for putting this thread together. When I bought #557 its was already dismantled. The only F marked parts I have found are the fuel strainer cover, seats, and leaf spring bolts. Green Sheller.

Javier,
Great to hear from you. Please post any images of the VEP items that you're finding such as your Sheller

Re: VEP GPW Differences from other GPWs
I thought the BO drive switch was not used on the VEP, yet here is an early image with perhaps late Mar/early Apr 43 GPW. It looks like a BLACK Sheller steering wheel
