Were heat shields used from the beginning?

Were master cylinder heat shields a standard factory item from the beginning of production? Specifically, first contract?

Master Cylinder Shield A-647, GPW-5118, is traceable to all G-503 Jeeps starting with the MA.

Thanks. I wasn't sure as mine did not have one when disassembled.
