Is it a Spicer? Can you locate the assembly date and report back?

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
I think that casting came out in late 1942; maybe November or so. I used to see them appearing on 12/42 and 1/43 GPWs.

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
Is there any dated Ford or Axle Manufacturer documentation as to when the ribbed style axles were changed to the ones without the ribs? Thanks

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
I do not believe Ford dated their housings. The ring/pinion gear sets are dated, but obviously a few bolts and they can pop out, so not the most reliable. Gearsets would be made slightly before the housing, I suspect.

Have you found any dates on the ring gear?

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
I seem to remember seeing dates. 1943willysgpw's axles are closed up I think.

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
We have a VEP GPW that has the axles without the ribs with a ring gear dated 3-11-42. Just wondered if there was any written documentation by Ford or the axle manufacturer of when the rib style axles were changed to the style without the ribs?

Re: gpw first pattern ribs on axle
interesting. I'll have to look for ribs on my April 42 axle. I suspect it has them.
