We have 4 VEP's and they all have the short frame straps.

I see that the coil is going in the opposite direction. They are 1 1/2" x 15/16" with an ID of 5/8"

I found FOUR like the one in my pic above. Anyone need a couple let me know.....right now I need an Autolite AN-7 so maybe a trade if you have one of those plugs you can spare?

Chuck, can you spare two of your body bolt springs? GPW2647 would really appreciate it!

Were these used on early MB’s we well? If so, then I would need 4 total.

I’ll call you later this week when I’m home.

Unless I missed it in the thread the early tool box lids were mounted with a screw and a nut, and the later tubs used a screw and a tapped plate spot welded on the inside of the tool box.

I think the tapping plate was used on VEP GPWs like yours.
They were NEVER spot welded to the door opening.
Like the tapping plate on the tool box lids, which were not spot welded either.

GPW-712 and GPW-713 have tool box lids bolted to the tub with three machine screws nuts and washers. We had a later tub that had a plate tapped with three holes that was spot welded to the inside of the tool boxes and the tool box lids were bolted to the tub with three machine screws and washers.

I may have a feature. I’m just restoring my early drivers seat so I’ve separated the damaged seat pan and stone guard from the frame and got my replacement out to compare. I got what I thought was my short stone guard out of my boxes and compared it to the original. It was deeper so I assumed I must have picked up the longer/deeper guard so got the other one. Turns out that was even longer/deeper. I know it’s been said that the GPW never had the short stone guard but I believe it did (and so did Al Bras when I spoke to him years ago) but it now looks like they used a guard that was shorter than the Early Willys so must have had a corresponding thicker wood insert.

If you get a chance can you lease post some images showing the differences?

Thanks

Ok, Some photos below, not sure what order they will be in but there’s a photo of the seat pan with guard, one with a tape measure showing 3 1/2”, a repro at 4” which was supposed to be the Willys with wood insert and a GPW at 4 1/4”.

Any thoughts. The use of a 3/4” wood filler would be ridiculous. I’ve been trying to obtain a copy of the Feb 42 parts list but I only ever find the April 42 for sale.

I measured the stone guard on my VEP and it is 3 1/2 inches.

That’s interesting, so the same as my seat. But I’m told the GPW guard should be the long one and the short one MB. I don’t know what the original sizes are for those but the JMP repro of both are in my post above.

Do you have a wood filler for yours? There’s obviously a big difference between our guards and the later?? GPW guard.
