Yes, the hole is threaded, it got an early part. It came to me with an 8W Ford marked generator painted a good solid coat of grey too.

I have my sights set on a restoration that's as close to factory as I can get it, although, I'm adding trailer eyes to the pintle & a trailer plug. The back panel had been cut out for the trailer plug & a Jerry can. The plug will remain in the final product, but the can is deleted. I may add a tow-bar if I run accross an exceptional deal.

That's all the add/mods planned. The reinforcing gussets for the back panel were never added.

I THINK it was a low-mileage jeep, based on the condition of parts (bumper gussets almost perfect) & completeness. (rear seat, bows, carb, starter was just about the only thing that wasn't in the "package". I can't prove it, the numbers on the odometer are toast & I haven't opened it to see the numbers 180 out, but I will someday.

Yes, you've got it looking as good as it did when it rolled off the line and probably better. 8)

I have a question. I understand that there are two dowel bolts used to attach the bellhousing to the block, at the lower ears of the block. The question is, what about the bolts at the TOP of the block? Are they dowel bolts as well, or just bolts which are not threaded completely?

Thanks Chuck. I'm planning to use all new hardware for this except the dowel bolts. I'm considering welding a bar between the top 2 bolts & didn't want to ruin original hardware.

Luke, any reason for the bar you want to add or just to make it easier to handle?

It allows you to unbolt the bellhousing without a backer-wrench. Not impossible, but a difficult task with the tub on. Don't worry, I bough brand new bolts from home depot the other day, no F-script stuff will be ruined, so not technically a mod, maybe? :)

Good idea Luke, I thought it had something to do with holding the bolts but didn't think about it eliminating the need for a backer wrench.

FINALLY, the tub for GPW 12078 is back in possession of a Sparks!

Tori stopped by Flatfender Restorations & collected the tub to 12078. She will bring it back East in early July!

I have some work to do as the frame is still not rolling.

On July 3rd, I'll persoonally see it for the first time since I left Texas for FT Meade in '10!

Check my Facebook posts in G503 page, for a couple of pictures! I've painted my front axle and I'm expecting a proxy visit from Ron via the FedEx guy today! Hoping I didn't forget anything, this shipment should allow me to get to an assembled chasis!

I got the kinks worked out in the paint I bought at Topeka. I had issues with my gun last night but got the job done.

That radio sounds neat. 12078 had a radio at some point in its life. What do you need for it? (that's strictly out of curiosity, I'm sure I couldnt afford it. Not certain I want to build a radio jeep.

Yes. Still working on 12078. Slowly but surely getting there!

Sounds like you made a good trade!
