transfercase

Postby wayne douglas » Sat Jun 23, 2012 4:36 am

Hi guys - is it likely a Feb 42 GPW would have a GPW marked transfercase or could it be a Willys one with Willys parts numbers?

It would definately have the small diameter intermediate shaft.

If it is GPW, would it have the small data plate on the top the same as the Slat Grille?

looking forward to your reply :D

I think all GPW's were delivered from the factory with only the GPW marked case, those wouldn't have a plate on them but would have the GPW part number cast into the rear of the main housing.

But for a Feb. 1942 GPW I'm not sure, Tom Wolboldt would probably know.

Thanks for your input and that's my take on what would have happened as well - but I would like more confirmation if possible -- Tom if you are reading this please give us your understanding -- :)

Hi Wayne,

I have not come across any GPW Ford made transfer case starting data. But than I have not looked for any either. I hope to have a 4 day trip to the Ford archives in mid July - funds pending.

I'll add here just for good measure...a Feb '42 GPW should have a Ford manufactured transfer case...no tags.
