Firestone Ground Grips for GP etc?

Post by gpwmke » Tue Sep 26, 2017 12:09 pm

Found this link on previous post "Summer of Photographs..... " It is a supplier of the early style tires I think for the GP and Bantam etc. http://www.millertire.com/categories/im ... s/6-00-16/
Thought this post would help get the word out in case others just looked at the Summer Pics posted and missed scrolling down to see the reply about the tires.
Too many times I look at the pics and skip the content, but the tire link was to helpful to get lost. Thanks to Robinb and 1943Willysgpw for getting the information out. Best wishes; Leo

Keep in mind that when you select the link, the page will say the page you are looking for has moved. On the left column, select implement. A size chart will appear. Select 6 x 16 and the tire will show up as one of the options. Also the tire differs slightly in that there is an absence of the middle tread bar.

Aren't these the correct Firestones for a GP and some VEP GPW's?

I do not know entirely. I have seen pictures with either.

While I can't speak for GP's (suppose I could look it up in Lloyd's GP book) I believe the "bent bar" tread would be appropriate for the earliest of GPW's with Firestone tires.

Maybe there is a changeover from the "Chevron" tread to the "bent bar" type tread during GP production? Again, I'll need to reference the books for photos of GP's with the Ground Grip tires. I'd sure like to get a set of the bent bar Firestones!

Here's a couple Bantams. Note the Bantam Pilot Model and the 4-wheel steer model has the "Ground Grip" tread, the BRC-40 has the "Bent Bar" tread.

Hello.

What would be the correct tire for a late second series GP? Does anyone make them? Thank you!

Bent bar tread? I would be very interested if these are being made, but I don't believe that to be the case.

That is what my garage is starting to look like....spent all afternoon looking for a loose emergency brake lever that I last saw over a year ago to no avail....maybe my lever is next to the crate of NOS bent bar Firestones....lol.
