Was the re-routing of the coil wire and use of clips on the spark plug wire conduit tube a factory or a field modification? I cant find the clips in the two GP parts books March and Oct of 41. Also, I cannot find any photos of collector restorations with this modificaton. None of the GPs I have owned has this arrangement. I assume the modification was made due to spark jumping between the spark wire / coil wire? Anyone with info on this please respond.

Correct, they are not in the parts manual.

Although there are not allot of original wartime good engine bay photos that I know of, this is one, and it shows the clips. It's either original, or perhaps mod...which I doubt.

There must be a good reason...
As the wire is separate anyway...otherwise I guess it would be in the main webbing like the oil pressure wire?

It is funny restorers in all those years misted it. As in below photo, again you clearly see the configuration. It's the original GP film surfaced on Ebay a few years ago.

Anyway, I wanted it...like a few others.

Btw, the 2 small rubbers bumpers on the hoof are also not in the manual....so that does not say everything, as they surely are on period wartime pictures.

Jacco, another interesting point about your first pic of the British GP engine bay is that there appears to be a brace (MB/GPW style) between the front battery clamp and the body. Is this so or an illusion? I have not seen such a brace before.

Ooh yes, I found that brace on my unrestored GP. It's original. Probably not all contracts though....still allot of research required on GP's  and from time to time you find something new.
:)

What about above picture missing the rubber bumper and bracket on the grill?
And the radiator overflow router behind of the radiator instead of to the front......

Shoot me!.....as said, research required for GP's!!

Hi Jag,

Mate as far as I know, that brace too the battery is a GP series 2 thing, and I guess thats where the idea for using it on the MB/GPW came from.

Jacco, that British GP is a series 2, and it has the clips on it, maybe a series 2 update :?: .

Our GP15512 has the battery brace (see below photo). Also, the brace p/n 5167 is shown in the Oct 1941 parts book in the illustration on page 53 (see below). This must be a late production change. I agree, it is probably the reason Willys / Army decided to add the brace to the MB. Another good Ford idea.

Thanks for the pic of the brace. I saw the ref in the GP Manual in the exploded view however, I could not find it in the description of parts - will need to re check. My GP 15378 Sept 1941 has no signs of this brace . Oher restored GPs of later 2nd series I have see do not have it as well. Maybe a late change or some folk thought the hole in the fender was for something else? I have looked in the manual including the actual photos of the engine and they don't appear to have the clips on the plug leads tube. Interesting vehicle with some remaining uncertainties.

A few of you committed early to buy as agreed through PM. Nevertheless I have not received all payments as per instruction.
Please note I send out in order of payment received.

Received new orders which paid direct, so make sure you full fill payment if you wish me to send out the parts.

Thanks, Jacco
