Purpose of the GP body bolts with the springs?
Hi experts. I removed the body from my frame today. There were two bolts with springs and castle nuts in front of the tub attaching to the frame. I have seen pics of these before and know they're original. What is their function/purpose? Just to keep the bolt heads from pulling through the floor is it lifted up from the frame? They don't make much sense to me. Hopefully one of you can explain. Thanks!

They allow the body and frame to flex a bit more while off-roading, reducing the tendency to crack the tub. The springs were also on the first contracts of GPW's. My old 1/2T Dodge had those, too.

I guess that makes sense. The seem awfully complicated just to hold the tub on. Oh well they're neat... I'll rebuild them

Thanks Gindi, I'll have to make up two more when the time comes. At least I'm only missing 2 and not 10!

My GP has 4 as indicated, 2 under the grill and 2 on the front of the tub. My 1st series GPW has only 2 which are at the front of the tub. If you search the G503 site there is extensive discussion re this topic.

Thanks Jag. I have seen them here on G503 before. Just did not remember seeing what their purpose was. Problem with looking at all the old posts is that it seem most of the pictures are gone.

Seems to me that there were springs at all the mounting braces (9???) on the ones I took apart.
Used at these points as I recall:
Frame bracket to body mount GP-5077 (2 each). 1 each on the left and right side behind the gun mount cross member mount points.
Frame bracket to body mount GP-5055-B (5 each). 3 on the right (passenger) side and 2 on the left (drivers) side.
Plus the Grill mount points (2 each). Grill mounts to front frame cross member 2 spots.
Just as I remember it anyway.

Re: Purpose of the GP body bolts with the springs?
Hybicki,
Thanks... I am not sure. I didn't find any real clear info on it in the manuals I have, but maybe I did a poor job looking. It's still a long way off before I'll need them. I'm just glad I found two so if I need 7 like you say or even 20 more I will be able to make up some new ones. At this point springy bolts are interesting fun to learn about, but pretty far down on my list of importance. I will figure them out when them time comes. Last night I figured out a new way to search this forum. Hopefully now when I search GP I won't get 10,000 results for GPW every time!
Thanks again

Is that carpet between the body and the frame mounts? Cant tell if it is or just disintegrated rubber. Mine had actual shag carpet glued on there! Long live the 60's!

Maybe the belting such as that used on conveyors was used. That type of belting was multi-layered rubber with threads for reinforcing too.

Echelon 1,
Where can we see more images of the 'most original GP on the planet' please? Or maybe where is it located, so I can go and take images myself?
Regards
Michael C

I like Michael C.'s idea. More photos please! It's hard to find pics. I have some to post up tomorrow with questions. I keep finding weird things I'm not sure belong.
