100 Amp Generator Kit
Does any one have any information on the 100 amp generator kit? I was wondering how the three groove water pump pulley would line up using a two groove crankshaft and generator pulleys.

Re: 100 Amp Generator Kit
Does the 60 Amp kit have the three groove pulleys, or is it the Canadian radio kit?

Re: 100 Amp Generator Kit
M-38A1 CDN 3 has the 60 Amp system, there are 3 drive belts, and the 3 pulleys are 3 Groove. I do not have the parts list for the M-38A1 CDN 3.
The 100 Amp system Consists of a 100 Amp alternator, A rectifier, and a Carbon Pile Regulator. Late 1960's 100 Amp system superseded the Carbon Pile Regulator with a Solid State Unit that was not very reliable.
I no longer have any 100 Amp system parts. The Organizational Maintenance Shops servicing the 100 Amp system on the Jeeps were issued a Water Pump Pulley Puller in order to change the 2 Groove Pulley to a 4 Groove Pulley. 100 Amp system was rough on Jeep Water Pumps and the bearings had a very short life. To make the Water pumps more durable, two of the 4 belts went to three of the pulleys and two shorter belts went to just the Crankshaft Pulley and the Alternator.
It was interesting to see a Commo Jeep with the 100 Amp System and the AN/VRC 44 AM Radio operate. The Jeep wad idled at 1/3 throttle and when the mike was keyed, the belts would screech and the M-38A1 would lurch sideways.

Have you ever seen a jeep "jump" when a 1000V. 350 mil, Dynamotor kicked in?Ben Dover wrote:M-38A1 CDN 3 has the 60 Amp system, there are 3 drive belts, and the 3 pulleys are 3 Groove. I do not have the parts list for the M-38A1 CDN 3.
