M38E * Electro-Willys under construction

Post by M38Mike » Tue Jan 13, 2009 7:20 am

I started a new thread under 'scuttlebutt' about an M38 that I'm modifying to run on electric batteries. This is definitely an unofficial field modification. My web site has the full details of the conversion, but the scuttlebutt thread has the highlights.

I posted the primary thread there because I thought more folks would see it, and I'm interested in comments about the project.

Thanks Willy, I'll be glad to let you drive it when we're up north. It's a hoot!

BTW, do you know much about isolating radios from RFI static? I'm having a heckova time with static on the CB in Electro-Willys.

Try a 30 MC condenser across they + and - and see if that take away the noise
like at the motor or at the generator or just where you have the power for the radio
Willy
You buy those at Radio Schack store

Thanks Willy, I'll give that a try. I currently have 3 NS-12 filters in series in the + power wire just before the radio. They clean up all the noise from the rest of the electronic gear I have, but they don't clean up the RFI static from the 11 inch motor. I'll add the 30 MC condenser to see what it will do for me. Jus to be sure I have it right, I should connect one end to the + wire and the other end to the - wire near the radio. I assume they are marked for which end connects to which wire.

No One wire to groud and one wire to plus
You may put this sverel places or just move the condenser around

I got the motor rebuilt from the destruction of the posts. But I found a problem with my charger, so I sent the charger off to be repaired. I expect to get it back soon, then I'll be back on the road with Electro-Willys. Until then it's parked in the back of the shop.
