Hello,
I am new here and I have a rusty 47 CJ2. I really want that MB look for renacting and parades. Has anyone ever used the MB2A body. What can I expect when doing one like that. I'm not trying to fool anyone and know it could never be Judged. I just like the MB look.

You'll get the full gamut of ideas but the bottom line is a CJ2A dressed up as an MB is still a CJ2A dressed up as an MB. The key here is final value of the jeep. A 2A built as a 2A is worth more than a 2A built to look like an MB. Just as a MB built as an MB is worth more than a MB built to look like a 2A. So if the OD look is all you are after and we all know the Army used just about all civvy type CJ's at one time another then why not just build the 2A like one would appear in use by the Army? You paint it WWII flat OD, add hood numbers, tie a rope on the front bumper, mount a set of NDT tires, bolt on bumperettes and a pintel hitch (they were an option on the CJ's) and voila you have an OD Army jeep.

From a strictly reenacting standpoint an OD CJ2A with numbers, bumperettes and NDT tires is all you would need. Wouldn't be any worse than John Wayne driving up in an MB in the movie Green Beret in Vietnam. Only an absolute purist would take issue with either one. The feeling and intent of the movie and reenacting would go unharmed.

What would be wrong with an MB in Vietnam? My father-in-law drove what they called the "Death Sled" in Vietnam, a GPW. It was called that because it was over 20 years old.

It might have also been an M201, since the French were in Nam before, and even while, we were there.

You'll have to show me a photo of an active duty US Army owned and operated MB or GPW in 1969 in South Vietnam. I am sure examples floated around belonging to private owners and possibly even South Vietnamese units but not US Army in 1969.

John Wayne drove a M151 in the WW2 flik "In Harms Way" too......Like was stated, only a purist, or a jeep nut like us would be able to tell the difference....

Good luck!!

Rusty1340,
Hey your jeep looks great, you took a rusted out $500 jeep and made a nice looking jeep out of it. Who cares what John Wayne drove or if your jeep is a MB-2A, it looks good .

Thanks,

My Dad paid 350.00 for it in 2007 and had all intentions restoring it to make it look like a war time Willys. He passed away 2008 before he could start on it, so I took it upon myself. I restored several cars in the past but this project was the most enjoyable out of them all. I want to find a real MB or GPW to do next
