MZ 1 numbers
Hi Mark,
Did you notice that the MZ 1 you just gave # USN 133442 and your MZ 1 # USN 133818 have the same number spread of 376 on both the hood number and the body numbers.
Are all of the numbers above actual numbers, Is there something to this pattern, or Is this just a freak event?

I'm not sure, Tom?
Here is the problem.
The list of the first radio jeeps:
---------------52805-------WW2 jeep Marine Corp Radio jeep
---------------53095-------MB Radio jeep
---------------53204-------43 MB # 279864 Marine Corp Radio jeep
---------------53223-------MB Marine Corp Radio jeep (repainted Gloss FG)
---------------53277-------MB # 270693 MZ-2 #1418 Radio jeep (Body #4294)
---------------53281-------WW2 jeep Marine Corp Radio jeep
---------------53350-------MB NOM-12 Radio jeep
---------------53416-------WW2 jeep MZ-2 Radio jeep
---------------54198-------02/20/43 MB Radio jeep ( Body # 3790 ) Data Plates & frame tag missing.
---------------54425-------MB Radio jeep - MAG 21
Now, Lloyd White lists in AM #73 the radio jeeps he found as a spread, from USMC 52800 to USMC 54200 (1400 NOM-12 jeeps). The Navy contract for the MB-NOM-12 and MB-NAVY-MZ-1 was for 1990 jeeps, which leaves 590 jeeps that were MZ-1.
Here are the known NOM-12 bodies. 2072, 3790, 3818 (Frank Steele's)
Here are the known MZ-1 bodies 3859, 4235.
We have one body in red above that is on Tom Price's jeep and he says marked 4294. He also says it has a composite gusset which should not be if the jeep frame is MB-270693. So this jeep body number is the problem... is it a composite body and he is just not seeing the other number, as in 74294? Or, is it actually a square gusset and a MB-NOM-12?
Someone needs to confirm the numbers on Tom's jeep to see what he actually has.
If Toms body is a square gusset then his frame number matches his body and most likely the USMC number… so the relationship of the MZ-1 bodies being in order would be false. We just have too small a sample to be sure if in fact his body is a composite one.
One other question we need to ask Grant is if he found that number or used my numbers to get his USN number, as I just pulled the number off of the serial number list on G503.
I have two other MZ-2, MB-383471, MB-398055, but no USMC numbers to go with them. The is quite a little group around 398000+ now.

Maybe the NAVAL MOBILE CONSTRUCTION BATTALION TWENTY SIX
The history of Naval Construction Battalion 26 begins at Camp Allen in Norfolk, Virginia, where the Battalion was organized on 8 August 1942. After advanced training at Camp Bradford in Little Creek, Virginia, NCB 26 was further trained at Gulfport, Mississippi. The Battalion embarked from Camp Rousseau, Port Hueneme, California and arrived at Noumea, New Caledonia, before landing at Guadalcanal and Tulagi, British Solomon Islands December 26, 1942. RNMCB 26 also served in Tulagi, Munda, Malasta and Nugri in the Southwest Pacific in support of various advance base groups for the duration of the war.
In 1946, Naval Construction Battalion TWENTY-SIX was deactivated.

Further information on MB-270693
The number was USMC 116546 originally painted on the jeep, then he changed it to USMC 11654 then to USMC 55277. The body is a composite body number 4294, and was changed to the frame and might have went through a rebuild.
So, other than it was an MZ-2 body and the frame was an earlier MB, we do not know what the earliest USMC number was as 53277 though in the correct range, cannot be tied back as the original number.
So, it is possible the MZ-1 numbers are in sequence.

USMC numbers
Hi Tibor,
Thanks! Do you think the number on the other jeep is 20133072 ? This would be a GPW number.
