That link does not work for me.

I don't see how that could be on either of those two Islands in 1943... because they were in the hands of the Japanese then.

USMC 14406 is a very cool find!

Tibor and Mark,

I agree with Mark's statement, cool photo's. I also believe the jeep photo was not taken where the photo was labeled. However, the M 1-4 ambulance, the number 14406 is a USN number, not a USMC number as it has a USN prefix prior to the number.

What is also interesting on the side of the ambulance body is the USNM?, could this perhaps be USNMD ?

Lastly, the jeep in the photo may be a GPW by looking at the front bumper line up holes or whatever they are called.

Tibor,

Keep on digging and sharing these photo's. You are doing a great service to the hobby.

Mark,

Sorry, try this link: http://www.duryeapa.com/images/contents.htm

It's very interesting photo album for me, because there are a lots of families from East Europe (I think from Poland, Czech, and Hungary).

You can find that USMC jeep photo between 1943 photos:
look for: 1943 Gillespie Bernie at Okinawa or Iwo JIma 1
and another jeep pic maybe USN from 1945:
look for: 1945 Kelly Tom Military USN

Frank,
How are you? Thanks for the good words! Yes that medic truck is actually an USN one. Sorry!
I guess the last letter is M (medic?), or H (hospital?).
That's a USMC GPW jeep.

Tibor

My Bad... I see it is U.S.N. 14406.

I also see it marked USNM on the side with Mobile Base Hospital XXX.

So possibly dumb question on this topic...

Would the USN reg #s be the same yellow color as the USMC #s would be (assuming that those ambulances are also painted in the Marine Corps green color)?

Tom,

USN 262138
1941 Dodge WC22 1/2 ton
DoD 10/30/41

From here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 83541&rd=1

From the item description,
Buy using soft scrub I was able to start uncovering the truly original registration number. There is already a very large yellow registration number put on by the Navy but it's not the original. The original one is smaller and higher on the hood.
The seller does not mention what the Army number is.

Tom - The 20359065 is the old Army hood number and in some cases the Army number was kept even when the vehicle was passed to the Navy.

Mark T. - The Navy IH USN 14406 was attached to USNavy Mobile Base Hospital #3, the USNM is part of this and the rest may be under the spare.

Sean - The Navy IH trucks could have been marked in White or Yellow, if the latter often the same yellew as used on Marine vehicles.

The WC22 is a neat find, I almost bought a similar one about ten years ago that was flightline yellow with black Navy markings.

Thanks Mike! My truck is slowly returning to Marine green, but I wanted to make sure when the time comes I put the markings on in the correct color.

Attu is an island in the Aleutian chain in the Bering Sea extending from Alaska almost to Russia. Google Attu to find out more.
