43 GPW frame color

Postby The Fireman » Thu Sep 14, 2006 12:59 pm

The frame on my USMC May of 43 GPW jeep/amb conversion is painted black as a primer coat, while the body is primer is red oxide ? The body has never been off the frame, nor will I remove it from the frame for the restoration.

Anybody else have a GPW frame that has black primer on it, it may be common, but inquiring minds want to know.

Same here. Sept 42 and March 43 are black on the frame and red on the body etc. Can' find the thread at the moment but this has been discussed here before. Seems to me I rememeber one of the vendors at Dayton selling the black primer (sorry I can't recall his name). Mike

My 44 GPW SN#200493 has a black primer on the frame. According to Paolo Batisti that was correct.
