I found this picture on the web and have never seen it before. Looks like the hood serial # is USMC 120683

It's interesting that the Stars were left on the jeep and trailer. Granted I have seen a few USMC jeeps with the stars on them. They need more elevation on those antennas if they're wanting to talk long range.

The jeep started out as an Army jeep.

I cannot read the USMC number on the trailer? Maybe USMC 38046

That kind of looks like direction finding equipment to me...

What is the backstory on the above MZ-2, Farrell?

And... is there a photo of the MZ-2 data plate as I can see where it was on the dash?

Nice looking jeep! :D

The owner recently purchased it and contacted me about it. According to the previous owner, Lloyd White bought the glove box door and data tags from this MZ-2. Assuming it's this one below, since the Jeep and the door are both painted red.

Although if that's the case, the tags didn't match the Jeep and were from an earlier MZ-2. It apparently had an SCR-608 installed at some point. The original MZ-2 TCS radio dash tag is missing.

What's nice about this MZ-2 is it is nearly complete as far as numbers are concerned. Missing the DoD and registration number. I believe this MZ-2, my MZ-2, and two other MZ-2s were all delivered the same day in November.

Meant to say it's not the door from this jeep.

I took that photo of the glove box at Tower Park in October of 2005.

I inspected Lloyd's MZ-2 with my oldest son back in 2010... took photos of the body and frame but no close ups of the frame plate or body number. You would think I would have noticed if the data plate did not match the frame tag, but I cannot remember.

The paint on the glove box door matches pretty close to that jeep so I will talk to Lloyd on what the story is.

As far as the dates, that sounds correct and really does not surprise me as the radio jeeps seem the have a short production run periodically.

In any case, the new owner of the red MZ-2 would love to purchase those tags back from Lloyd, provided they are matching and original to his MZ-2.

Data tags were found for J. Garlitz's MZ-2. Unfortunately they are the blank silk screened versions installed by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Luckily he was able to locate the dash tag with legible text also installed by the P.N.S.
