Hi gentlemen (and ladies?)!
I recently bought an m100 and am in the process of refurbishing it. My granddad fought extensively in the Pacific theatre in WWII and I wanted to do some sort of tribute to him on it to honor him and surprise my mom and Uncle. I wish I had the money to sink into it to do a full restoration, (one day!) but for now I am just trying to preserve the integrity of the structure and am focusing on not dismantling anything original, or adding anything new that will structurally detract from the historical value. I was planning on doing the obvious USMC on it, but was wanting to put details of his division, regiment, battalion and company on it. I have been researching for weeks trying to find the best way to accomplish this. One way I was considering would be the 1st division tactical marking <> with the numbers in the middle denoting his reg, battallion, and company. I'm struggling with finding the corresponding numbers though. Another way I was contemplating was fleshing out the registration number (since I don't have one and cannot locate it) so that it matched up with his unit markings, or with denoting it on the body like they sometimes did on the WWII Jeeps. I'm not sure I'm making much sense. Here's what I do know: My granddad was Marine 1st division, K-company, 3rd battallion 7th marines. Can you folks help me come up with some tribute ideas?
I have learned so much already from this forum! Thanks for your time and expertise.
Sincerely,
Kate
