I have known for some time
that my serial number
was 1 of 200 L 4's that were painted silver
and went to fort sill.
i'm not sure i like silver
but want to stay original
i'm in a big delemma.
does anyone know if there are any silver L4's in the world?
what would you guys do in my place?
thanks

I can only tell you what I wouldn't do and that's paint her silver. While it may be historically correct for a certain period of time in the aircraft's long life it somehow doesn't seem right, to me, to do it. Almost sacrilegious. And besides, she might be embarrassed. After all, she's a military lady, not a Vegas showgirl! (no offence intended) :D

i'll have to download the pic tomorrow
and re-post it for you.
i've pretty well decided
that my L4 will be OD
with the italian markings;
i.e. yellow nose
and the yellow star on the side
with a circle around it.
i don't care for the invasion strips either
i'll post a pic of this also

Not bad but it kinda looks more like USAF than USAAF. Remember, my opinion and a dollar will (might) get you a cup of coffee at the diner, that's about all it's worth. :D

She's your baby, paint her the way you want.

Now if it was markings, I would suggest 13th AAF but then I'm prejudice (see link below).

There were many silver L-4J models. The one I restored was in a mix of OD, and silver. As I understand it, some of them were even painted all over OD (no grey under the wings and fuselage). The last number of them were only done in silver.

yellow nosed L4s that went to italy.

army museum CD?

Here's a different one.

There are two larger images of the same plane here:

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/185598L.html

I have a much larger and clearer copy of the pic you posted. If you need it let me know.

Dave, I like green, many people like green, some don't.
If you like green, keep it green with a nice yellow nose. Your plane is still original, it will always be.

Btw, that yellow nose reminds me of an ME109.

In Holland I have seen an L4 who took off from the Normandy beaches right after D-Day. It was green as well. Very nice plane.
Good luck with your L4...
