Wow! Looks great! Personally I like the silver. Everyone else seems to have a green one anyway.

Congrats on an incredibly difficult job. I only saw this thread today and going from the before pics in the garage to your final result is mind blowing. Wow.

Like the silver!! ive always wanted a L-4 to put together. Who knows maybe I will sell some MV's to fund the project. Im a A&P with plenty of time turning wrenches on the Piper cub line.

Re: iowa's L-4 project!
Dear Dave
Your plane is absolutely gorgeous, congratulation on such an achievement!
Do you have a web site with all steps of the restoration ?
As you know I have always loved the L4, so lately I have been inquiring about a flying school that would offer L4 flights. I actually found one near home, and they only teach flying lessons on cubs !!!
Through the club, I got in contact with an amazing lady who has an endless passion for observation war birds. She owns two (L4, L5 with Normandy D-Day history !!!) and created quite a nice web site with 100s of pictures : http://ham-jam.org/ She lived for a while in the US and has an English web site but I cannot find it anymore.
Inspired by your restoration I found a WWII L4 basket case in northern France, but the price is a bit high, so the transaction is on hold. I will start with the flying lesson (in the spring as the club cubs are going into maintenance for the winter) and then will decide if I buy a fully restored L4 or not.
Looking forward to hearing more about your L4
Cheers
Jerome

Hey Dave,
Here is my '47 L-16A. Its is actually thru Nevada Silver at present time. I hope to start reassembly this spring. I found out a 4yr old puts a damper of jeep and plane rebuilds.

Re: iowa's L-4 project!
Dear all,
Following on Dave's very nice restoration, I finally found my love bird ...
With tremendous help from Iza Bazin (Ham & Jam club), I was very lucky to be given the right to care for an authentic 1942 L-4A (some people say buy ...).
G-AKAZ comes from the Duxford war bird collection where she was very much loved and maintained. Gertie as she was called there as served in the US in various training camp at the begining of WWII before joining the 12th AF Italy (I am still in the process of collecting her history with Iza's invaluable help).
Here are a couple of pictures of Gertie
Discovering her at Duxford between other war birds
Taking her out for a test fly (hard to concentrate with so many nice birds around)
Then on our fligth back to France over the Channel
That's Memphis Belle on the field
Over Dover
Over Normandy
With Iza's L-4 and L-5 in Normandy
Needless to say how happy I am
Next step, I will need to replace the current British instruments with white faced period instruments. Any help would be greatly appreciated if you have spares for sale, even in bad shape.
Thanks
Jérôme
