Captain Al Cormier WWII C-47 Pilot 14th Air Force. Al flew the Hump a number of times, had to bail out over China. Near the end of the war he flew General Groves who had a special package with him. Al assumed it was an A bomb component. Al wrote a book "WITH AN ANGEL BY MY SIDE" about his WWII service, I would have commented more, but I have misplaced his book.
The book is available from Amazon.

Re: LOST A LONG TIME WWII FRIEND THIS WEEK
Remembering Al.
There was only one aircraft Al loved to fly. He was a charter member(1947) of the Maine Air National Guard. The CO Was Colonel Philip Tukey, WWII 56th and 356th Fighter Group fame. He was checkd out in their P-47 Fighters and hated them, the units' C-47 was hid baby. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but Col. Tukey used to have his men picked up for monthly drill in a CCKW.
Ceneral Tukey delivered the units' F-89J to the USAF Museum in 1970.
