What a shame. Of course it was going to break if it was filled with water.

Can you say "FAIL"? Totally the fault of whoever they hired to recover it. I'm surprised the owner even agreed to film in the gulf, rather than filming in a lake where the elements are more predictable and blue screening in the background…bad call!

A sad ending to one of my favorite planes of all time. :(

Isn't this about the time that the Shadow Production Company created by the main producers files for bankruptcy because they underinsured the aircraft to save money or had no insurance at all?

Did the owner know they were going to have it in the water for a long period?
Did the owner keep up the maintenance on the bilge pump system? Leaker?

Production company's are notorious for destroying and damaging rented items.

Often the owners are left holding the bag, cash bag that is empty.
I would have made sure that there was monies in escrow and I would be there during all use.

Funny Scoutpilot, you obviously know very little about the complete "Kee Bird' saga. Do more research.
I have worked on and repaired WW2 aircraft, they have their own set of complications.
It was much more complicated than the skewed opinions that show up years later.
Read the book by, Hunting Warbirds by Carl Hoffman and he account of the Kee bird expedition by the chef, sorry detail info at home.
While a tragedy, the Kee Bird saga was done with the resources available at the time. easy for people to criticize and second guess after the fact.
When they usually don't have any "skin" in the game. How many of us would have volunteered or had cash to help in 1994?
The funds were not available to remove the aircraft piece meal, and you know Greenamyer's friend and co-worked became ill while working in the aircraft
and later died in the hospital.
I have met Darryl Greenameyer, he is a true type "A" personality and truly loves aviation.

I apologize for the flippant remark. I obviously don't know all that much about the Kee Bird.
