RARE WARBIRD ACCESSORY M-1 BOMBLIFT

Post by Joe Gopan » Sun Nov 24, 2013 3:19 am

Have M-1 Bomblift, surplused new at DOW FIELD, from 14th Fighter group in late 40's . Manufactured 1943 by WEAVER. Will consider trade for finished large RC scale model of F-80C Shooting Star by BVM, Skymaster, etc.

It's in the works, won't be long now before a sharp looking Shooting Star is added to my MV collection. Been trying for 20 years to find the right one. Going to need a Jeep size hangar for it.
F-80 has been my favorite jet fighter since I first saw them being delivered to the Maine ANG around 1948.

Got it, and it's a beauty. It will go with my ANG collection.

Could you post pictures Joel?
I am building a 1/5,5 scale spitfire mkIX from Brian Taylor's plans, that's a 83 inch wingspan.

Will you fly it?
How is it powered?

It is Jet powered. For display only, no plans for flight. Delivery will be in a few weeks. Pics will follow. I passed on the opportunity for some beautiful Jets such as F-86 and WWII Navy piston powered fighters. This is exactly what I hoped for when I started looking several years ago. Patience paid off. Spitfire is a beautiful aircraft, I have been lucky to have witnessed a real one in flight at a museum a few miles from here.

I missed the opportunity some years ago to see 12 (twelve!) of them flying together at Goodwood, what a fool I've been that day!

I've been a Warbird fan as long as I have been a Jeep and MV fan. and have met and corresponded with quite a few famous WWII Commanders and Aces including Flight Test Engineers, Test Pilots, and Tech Reps from the post WWII jet age.

Wish I knew how to post pics here, Anyway, I was supporting a local Memorial Day ceremony in my town by carrying about ten Pearl Harbor Survivors in my WC63 in 2007. After I delivered them to the Ceremony Site, I learned that Dick Rossi, one of the last Flying Tigers Aces (and local resident) was going to be spotlighted and speak. Hey wore his ole Flying Tigers Flight Jacket and they had all kinds of memorabilia and photos of him "back in the day". After the conclusion of the Ceremony, I introduced myself to him and asked if he would be so kind to stand by my WC63 so I could take a pic. Being a friendly Gent, he said he would and did. We had a friendly conversation and I thanked him. A great pic resulted and I was very saddened when I learned he had died two months later.
