When aircraft fly below you!

Postby jonesy » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:11 am

Over here in the UK, we are lucky to have low flying training areas dotted around the country. One of these is in Wales and it gets a lot of military aircraft flying through on training sorties. Below are photos from one day last month. They're not warbirds as such but the way the UK armed forces is being cut, a lot of these will be on the scrap heap soon!

This had to be the catch of the day. I used to work on the K so I've got a soft spot for these work horses.

It looks like the forum doesn't support photos at 1024 wide so I'm afraid the tails have been chopped off. Rest assures that the original photos haven't.

Interesting and highly detailed photos. The fourth photo of a C-130 is a bit different. Toward the end of the fuselage before the tail section, there are 2 protrusions sticking out on each side. Are these guns ports or flare dispensersor even cameras?

Oh, they are Warbirds all right. They just aren't WWII Warbirds. 8)

Man you're lucky. I only get to see cool aircraft like that in San Francisco when the Blue Angles are flying for fleet week and that's only when the board of supervisors isen't saying nasty things about the Navy.

Tell me about it! It's heavy too.

Sometimes even the pilots take a closer look.

Beautiful shots of some beautiful birds  I could have some close-ups like that as well, but they usually come by at tree-top right at the edge of the sound barrier..............so I usually have enough time to go  and then they're gone! my favorite fly-by was the C-117 at 100 or so feet off the ground, so low I couldn't see it coming, but could darn sure hear it, next thing I see is the nose coming around the corner of my HOUSE!!!!!!!! Low enough that my son and I could see the whole darn crew and the pilot was kind enough to kick it completely sideways for us, wave and pull it up :) while me and the youngster were watching in awe, my wife is freaking out fumbling with the camera on her phone and couldn't get a shot :( but it was better than an airshow............they seem to love buzzing the lake!
