Always had an interest in these due to my family connection.
Anyway I thought I'd add this Scout car story for you as its not widely known as far as I can tell.
My Great Uncle drove one of these in Normandy, indeed waded ashore in it on D-Day +5.
He told me it was almost completely under water and was the longest minutes of his life.
I had previously argued with a chap who insisted there were no SCs there, but there clearly were.
The Scout car in question was a very unusual one - it was a sonic warfare model.
According to my Uncles description it was carrying in the rear cinematic sound kit speakers and recordings.
It had for some reason the roller removed from the front and all gun rails removed.
This was still classified until recently and prior to me proving this he wouldn't talk about it.
Anyway, from what I can gather he was part of the the 3rd Scout Car Company that was operating as part of the Ghost Army.
Drove around playing sounds of tanks moving about and also at some point "come out and surrender" type of Psyops material.
He went right through the war in a Scout car as the driver except for a small stint as infantry during the Bulge to hold a bridge.
I have been trying without success to find a picture of one of these - so if anyone knows of one I'd love to see it.

Re: Sonic Scout Car
Though I didn't see a scout car I did see this documentary awhile back. The video in the link shows several vehicles with the speaker units mounted.

Wow, that's really fantastic, Boyso. Thanks for the story! Any chance you have photos from your uncle of him in it? Or more detailed shots of what's under the tarp?
