WTB Correct M8 Greyhound regulator pressed type with wide strap - not alloy conventional type
I am after one of the above, 12V and probably 55 Amp (or thereabouts) for an M8 Greyhound.
It is the regulator used with the short conduits. This unit has the conduits enter the base, (which is no wider than the cover).
The cover is pressed (NOT cast alloy to the best of my knowledge) and is held in place by a metal strap.
Note how one of the conduits enters the regulator via a 90 deg elbow (first photo).
(The regulator used with the longer conduits is the better known cast alloy cover with the rectangular connection box on one side with a conduit
fitting at each end, the cast lid is secured by 2 x knurled nuts, one of which should be safety wired - NOT the unit I need.)
See photos.
Need it to be usable.
Thanks
Doug

Doug, please let me know if you find a source. I need one too!
Note, the very late M20s with the 2nd generator on the left hand side of the engine compartment had 2 of these Ford manufactured generators. 2X as much hassle for me.
Also, Brent Mullins has the correct rubber shock mounts.

Thanks to those who have replied.
I will email the supplier and see what they say and let this list know how long till
the have more.
Does anyone remember how much they were charging for the ones they had?
Of note is that fact that the one shown:
1) Appears to have been sand blasted but not painted.
2) Missing are both conduit terminators, one I know to be a 90° elbow and the other I suspect is a straight. Both must have back nuts to be installed.
Regards
Doug

Hi Doug,
I know someone who got one of these. I will check and come back to you. It came minus the cables as you say, but I may have some spares of these if you should need them.

Darryl
Please do.
Cables are ok, I have them. It is the conduit terminators that could be difficult to get.
They really should come with the regulator as that gives a swap over package.
Not to have the terminators is very odd as the Yanks were always aiming for the
fastest return to combat ready as possible.

The cast brass conduit connectors were part of the cable assembly, not part of the VR. I think they were common between different types of armored vehicles, so you might want to check with Brent Mullins, Rod Shaver or other armor specialists.
From what I can tell, the Ford regulators were either painted or cad plated. The cad plated ones have a nice decal warning you to disconnect the battery before pulling the VR.

Did it have the conduit terminators?
If not, what did you do and how did you get some?
Thanks

Hi all,
Doug - I'm told LWD were selling them for 180 EURO. How did you get on with them? I might have at least the brass 90 degree elbow you need. Once my hull is back, I'll be installing some of the conduit and will have a better idea of what I am going to have left over.
Bill - I think I got my regulator from you a couple of years ago?
