Re: NEED PICTURES OF: Azimuth numbers inside turrent on bearing covers
Dan and all,
I am not sure of the date of this Signal Corps photo:
Also, here are some "screen grabs" from the Ebay auction of original Ford photos a few years ago:
I would say the factory font is probably the 1" that Big D shows, but it also looks like a VERY skinny font! Note in the original photos how the "gaps" in the font are very close together!
Hope this helps!

Did you also send the Diameter of the circle they need to arc around? I have contemplated this many times over the years, how best to lay this out and stencil it!! From the pictures, it looks like the numbers fit the plates evenly from left to right, so that should help with the lay out I have always thought. I wonder if getting a plate to Rick would help him any?
Don't forget the Arrow at the 0 mark in the 3rd picture!
Details, details details..... They sure do add up!!!

Re: NEED PICTURES OF: Azimuth numbers inside turrent on bearing covers
Hmmmmm!? Without thinking about the numbering I was thinking that the "ZERO" azimuth was under the gun tube....But your mentioning the arrow indicates to me that the numbering is offset so "ZERO" os located to the left of the gun tube when the turret is straight out front.
On spacing - that would seem to be fairly easily taken care of with an accurate diameter and calculations of the total length of the circumference of the turret circle - cardboard pattern with markings and divide between the major compass points of N-E-S-W would likely yield a good division. Centering the numeral on the pencil mark should not be too much of a problem....

Yes, offset, and the "L" and "R" are on the Physical left and right side of the turret, NOT the side the Tube is pointing at. Also, note the font, the 0 has 4 cuts into it to hold the center. most font's use 2......
Studying original pictures brings out great details, that is for sure!

Re: Azimuth numbers inside turrent & REGISTRATION NUMBER?ers
Yeah, the originals were the ticket....the rusty ones coudl ahve been repaints or ??? no telling who or where or when they might have been put on....
I have another concern.....ABOUT MY REGISTRATION NUMBER
the M8 is an earlier one - has mine racks not tool boxes with step cut in (according to Jim Gilmore)
And when I look at all the ORIGINAL WWII in action photos of the M8s I have I see Registration numbers in the 6035 - - - or lower range
BUT, when I do the :ADD THE NUMBER TO THE HULL NUMBER I come up with 6039891
That seems too high a Registration number to be an early M8???? Thoughts?
My Hull Number is 6988 of lower front armor in left corner (from driver's perspective) and also on the rear armor on both sides of the radiator opening.
??????? is there something I'm missing????

Re: NEED PICTURES OF: Azimuth numbers inside turrent on bearing covers
Sorry to resurrect an old post, but does anyone know the name of or have the font used for the numbers? I am trying to make stencils so we can add the numbers to our turret. Thanks in advance!
