WHAT IN THE H IS A GROUND SIGNAL PROJECTOR?????
Projector, Signal, Ground, M4 is a pyrotechnic launcher about 12" long, like a mortar. See page 53 of the M8, M20 TM 9-743 dated 21 February 1944. On M-20 it's in a holder on the hull behind the driver seat. For the M8 is seems like there is a typo in the manual where it says where it mounts. Confusion with interphone locations? Maybe someone can tell us where it goes on the M8.

It shoots a variety of pyrotechnics labeled M17 to M22 which are cylindrical with a rod coming out on one end with stabilizing fins. A primer with firing charge is on the other end. The round is pushed into the tube head first, leaf springs holds it away from a fixed primer for safety, the soldier holds it up and slams it base-first onto a hard surface, round goes down and primer impacts firing pin, the thing explodes out the launcher fins-first and in about 100 feet it reverses and keeps going to 600 feet where it ejects the contents of the cylinder. These acted the same as the rifle-fired versions M17A1 and M17A1B2 up to M22 etc, etc, which were fired head-first from rifle grenade launchers.

Awaiting reproduction cost estimate for 50 copies and 100 copies....so far have 22 that people want.....I may spring for the 50 order and see what the price is - not interested in making money on them - just a break even deal for the hobby and the trust-owned vehicle. We simplified the design but it will look exactly like the original and it will WORK! Not sure I ever want to drive an M8 using a Protectoscope though - vision would be incredibly limited using that.
I'm being interested in buying a foggy one just for display purposes....$$$?

Hello everyone, I was fortunate enough to pick up Ropkey Armor museums M20 Armored Car and it came with a mother load of protectoscopes, if you call need some there is plenty for everyone to have some. My site is www.taylorstracks1.com or call us at 727-902-2786. These are original protectoscopes.

How much are the original protectoscopes, and are they clear or foggy?

Ground signal projector.
Dan that is what the manual calls the flare gun used in the M5A1 Stuart tank.

Dani,

Put me down for 10. I'll need two in each of my vehicles plus 3 in each spares box (as long as they're not $1000 each!)

Thanks!

Looking to Create REPRODUCTION PROTECTOSCOPES

Post by Ford M-20 Scout Car » Sat Dec 16, 2023 1:06 pm

I have an engineer friend who is putting together reproduction PROTECT-O-SCOPES for M-8 and M-20 Greyhounds.
I have already sent him two of my old original units to size.
Looking to make them out of a poured plastic formed in a mold with attached mirror surfaces.
These previous posts date back some years, but seeking how many would be interested in purchasing.
My M-20 Greyhound uses two and I would have two more for spares.
Also did anyone find NOS spares or reproductions produced anywhere else?
Please advise.
