Pinzgauer dealer, Canada?

I am intrigued by the idea od the Pinz and am considering buying one.

Can anyone tell me if there is a dealer in Canada, preferably in the Ontario area who might be importing these?

They also have a listing of vehicle/parts dealers world wide on that site. That should put you in touch with a dealer near you or let you know if there are any. Which pinz where you thinking about?

Thanks for the tip.
I have only dabbled in HMV`s for the most part, both collecting and restoring so the newer stuff is very different for me, especially considering a European model.
I have never had the pleasure of seeing a Pinz upclose. nor riding or driving one.
My only info on them has come from magazine articles and reviews doen on shows like `Trucks`in the `States.
I like the idea that they are supposedly very robust and reliable and what really interests me is the fact that they are compact and lightweight compared to other vehicles in the same class.
I like the look of the 6x6 but also like the 4x4 for its compact stature.
Not sure yet, just looking.

I've driven the 712M that's the soft top 6X6. It's only slightly "doggier" on the road than the 710M which is the 4X4 ragtop. I liked those trucks alot having driven Dodges,CCKWs,gas unimogs, CJ3As etc. I found the Pinz's to be easier to get in & out of (compared to the Unimogs) they came equiped with seat belts,turn signals and a fuel gauge (some Unimogs didn't have fuel gauges they had a "dip stick") and were generally fun to drive. Another good site for these is: www.eurotruck-importers.com The owner of that company is a man named Sean Philyaw and he is a really great guy when (if) I ever get enough money to buy a pinz I will buy it from him.

Who says a Pinz is light? :lol: the 710 weighs in at 4300lbs and the 712 at 5200lbs. The 710s and 712s are built the same, other than the tranfer case in the 712 is 12% lower geared and the extra axle.

I've had both the 710M and 712M. Currently , I have a 716.... In Canada, you can import the TD at 15 years old.....but cost a pretty penny.

I guess "heavy/light weight" has a lot to do with the individual. When you consider Major519's M9 halftrack weighs in at around 15,000 lbs. :) I wonder if a diesel pinz could be imported into the states?

I have never heard of a Pinz put in the same class as a Halftrack. :lol:

My Pinz is a 716, and came in on some "loopholes" as I understand and is registered in Ca. 2 years later, we found out why it shouldn't be registered here... DMV's mistake, not ours, After the smoke cleared, it was grandfathered, and DMV learned not to do it again.

A 718AMB was imported for a ranch about the same time, I understand the paperwork and bond would choke a horse.... plus it can never be road registered and only leave the ranch in pieces, or exported out of the country.

2012 ( 25 year rule) will be the first year that any TD ( in any quantities) will be available for legal import to the US. That is if there is anything left of them... They are usually heavily used and abused. There were about only 2000 TD Pinzes made to 1993.

That's true about comparing a halftrack to a pinz. The pinz rides a heck of a lot nicer! :) I seem to remember something about the diesel pinzs not being able to enter the US to bad. I also seem to remember hearing that only 2000 or so TDs were built as well. However, with what's going on overseas I know the US military has been using pinzs (diesels) & 'Mogs along with the domestic issue trucks so maybe they'll start back up production again (if they haven't already-hey I can hope can't I?) besides didn't Stewart & Stevenson buy Pinzgauer? I kind of hope that they move production here if only for the fact that when Americans build something, they build a lot of them. 'course they'd probably demill them or dump 'em in the ocean when the military was done with them :cry:

I wonder if that 2000 number came from another site that someone mis-quoted me??? The 2000 refers to the P80 and P90s TD Pinzes made. Those numbers come from that TDs were continuous numbered, and that changes in cooling systems are listed by the VIN. P93s were made up to around 2000 +/-, when the factory was moved to the UK. During the move is the only time that I think Pinzes weren't made. The ATL Pinzgauer site had listed on their site that 30000 Pinzes had been made up to 2000.... these numbers don't really add up with the known number of 710/12s made and what the annual production of TDs would need to be to produce that quantity by '00.

With S&S buying ATL and renaming the company to Pinzgauer. the site now says they are not able to sell them for civilian or commercial use. BUT, they supposelly have independent regional agents for this in Europe.
Pingauer is busy supplying their truck to New Zealand to replace their LRs, and there are orders for other militarys. If I remember correct, I remember a quote from Pinzgauer that production is up to 500 truck a year .

Do not expect any of the current TDI Pinzes to be privately owned in the US, or sold, they would have to have all the safety devices and testing done like any light duty truck has to, and with the current military sales, why bother with the "whiney public".

I think the Brits are also replacing thier LRs with Pinzs as well. Some of the spec-ops units from the US military have been using the diesel pinzs in Afghanistan. Supposedly, the Army(?) is starting to look at a posiable replacement for the HMMWV (I heard that from someone who is in the Army) What I was posting about with (if) the US military issued the 716/718 pinzs after they were done with them they would become surplus and then available like all those M35s for us to enjoy. I don't think I'd want a civilianized pinz anyway just look at the H1s & H2s besides how much do you think a commercial Pinzgauer (marketed like the "Hummer") would cost anyway? :shock:

The Brits have been using Pinzes for some time now.The US was borrowing Pinzes from the Brits because the HMMWV was too big for a lot of Afganistan mountain trails. Supposelly , as of 4 years ago, the US had bought something like 50 Pinzes for Special ops and testing.

If the US went through the cycle with Pinzes ( bought, issued, and scrapped), I believe you'd see the same as the 151s, the DJs (postal jeeps) and the HMMWV, and see them destroyed except for the odd few that slipped through the system. Also, I would expect that it would also slam the door on civilian import of Pinzes from other countries.
A "civilianized" Pinz would differ on who did it ( and the "fluff"). The Current Pinz would only differ by the name on the "bill of sale", :wink: but a road legal Pinz in the US would need all the crap of a typical 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. Last year, a 716 was priced at $130k, and a friend was given a price for a 718K at $170k in Oz.

If a 716K was marketed in the US, a price tag of $200k would not surprise me, and then I would expect some group to come out against it because of the "high" rollover possibilities, as they did on Jeeps and Samaris.

What was "scary" to me was that my original 716K configuration of the Pinz had a profile of what would look like a "snub nose" H2.... Just what I wanted, to be compared with that Poser. :shock:
