WTB gpw engine UK
Need a gpw engine, preferably in the U.K. My frame number is 2147 but any gpw engine will do I can't bring myself to put this CJ engine back in.
Thanks
Luke

Re: WTB gpw engine UK
Would that of been a gpw cast block in there or a wilson block with gpw internals and a gpw vin?

Re: WTB gpw engine UK
I applaud you for not wanting to use a CJ motor in your GPW. Using a more correct period motor is always the way to go! Are GPW motors still easy to find in the UK or Europe? When choosing a motor for your GPW you should consider a few things...
I have GPW motor *GPW 2263* and it's a Ford cast block. The serial number is factory stamped. This shows that by the end of January, Ford was starting to cast their own blocks (I seem to recall a Jan '42 date code on the disc). I know of another block *GPW 2273* and it's a Wilson block...cast on 10-20 (1941). So, we know that by the time motor # GPW 2273 was stamped, Ford already had their own engines in the supply chain.
So, in essence....if you find a Wilson block with a factory stamped GPW serial number, don't necessarily pass it up. There is a strong possibility that your GPW may have had a Wilson block installed in it at the factory. So, if you are fortunate enough to find an early Wilson block it may still be "correct" for your early GPW. All I know is that 116 digits after GPW 2147, Ford was using their own motors. Tom W may have the motor casting information for GPW 2147.

My 2A has a Wilson Foundry GPW block. What I've seen says it's an October '43 engine. When didn't Ford use Wilson Foundry blocks?
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?

Re: WTB gpw engine UK
I know that sometime in 1943 Ford was indeed using Wilson block to supplement their own production. I don't know the timeline for this though. Tom W. probably has the precise data on this.

Tom has most likely already read this thread and I don't want to volunteer his time for him but you can do a member search for Tom. If he chooses to post the motor information for GPW 2147 I know others besides myself would be very greatful to him.
