gpw6335:

By 1944, available forging capacity in the U.S.A. was stretched to its limits and malleable iron was in great demand and short supply, so the government and companies looked for ways to free some up for more critical war parts as well as reduce pintle hook production costs. Pintle hooks were necessary but not critical, so in mid 1944 Holland Hitch designed an optional jeep pintle hook model T-60-B that could be made from stamped parts instead of the cast or forged parts used in its T-60-A pintle hook.

As you can see in the pictures below, the two halves of the pintle hook base were stamped out, either "spot welded" or pressure-point mated together in a few places for alignment, a curved bottom plate for the opening was added, then all three pieces were stick welded together along the length of their common seams. The two smaller stamped parts comprising the moveable top hook were riveted together and a small plate was welded on top for strength and function.

At first I thought these stamped pintle hooks were uggggg-ly. But like Scotch they are an acquired taste, and I now greatly appreciate the ingenuity of their design. So I sought and acquired the pictured stamped pintle hook to install on my spring 1945 Willys preproduction civilian jeep CJ2-26 that has "JEEP" stamped into the hood sides instead of "WILLYS" that was stamped on all later production model CJ-2A Universal Jeeps. I guess you could say I'm a stamp collector of the metal variety.

These were still available as a Kit from Jeep at least thru the 60's. I should have grabbed a couple as I have now acquired the taste.
