Looking for a 6V Seelite with no notch

Post by gdamiano » Thu Apr 21, 2016 6:30 am

As per title, I am looking for an original 6V Seelite with no notch at the 180 deg. position, like the one I have pictured here.

It is not a repro. Repros have a different thickness and do not fit inside original headlight buckets. I have seen posts relevant to this model of Seelite in the 12 V version, and it might well be that somebody has also a 6V one to sell.

Hello,
I have an NOS SEELITE dated April 26 1944. It was still wrapped in the "wax" paper NO Notch. BUT the bulb is defective. When I tested it on 6 volts the bulb "smoked" and turned cloudy. It therefore would need rebuilt. I can send you a picture if interested.

What's the deal with the notch at the 180 degree point? I have some with and some without the notch. Does this help ID a post war SEELITE?

Thanks in advance for sharing the information!

What's the deal with the notch at the 180 degree point?
Can someone post a photo showing what the above is referring to ?

180 degree is at the 6 o'clock position.

BTW, this picture was taken from a 2005 post in the MB GPW Technical knowledge Base, , titled "Differnet (verbatim) Seelite versions", dealing almost exactly with the same subject - but in that case the originator had two different ones, and he was willing to swap one for a similar other.

As far as I know the "notch" was late war and an improvement over the earlier version.
Being that as the gasket is made out of rubber and when they get old they dry out.
Leaving the glass available to rotate. That is why you see a lot of them with the glass rotated to the left.
The "notch" holds the glass in place so it can not rotate, even if the gasket goes bad.
If you also note that the early ones (reflector) are made out of brass and silvered. The later ones are steel(painted blue) and have an ALZAK type of coating on the reflector. When they leak they turn black not just brown or milky.
Hope this helps you out.
Cheers

Only a year but, I have 2, 1 seems to work, and 1 I can see is blown. Will test them on a jeep tonight and post price.
Photobucket album pictures here first 5 pics are of blown one, last 4 of one that might work.
