WTB project MB jeep

Post by fireguyfire » Mon Jul 13, 2015 5:44 am

Looking to buy a rougher MB project jeep. Don't have a ton of money to spend, but am not afraid of a project as I do my own paint body and mechanical. I have restored a 47 Willys and numerous muscle cars.
I am located in Canada just north of the Montana border, so unfortunately the U.S. Dollar is killing us lately.
Any leads would be appreciated gents.

A little more information about myself; I am a 15 year professional firefighter and a huge ww2 buff/ collector. I also restore vehicles/gas pumps/coke machines as a hobby.
So as you can see a true ww2 jeep has been a long time dream of mine and I am hoping to find one to make that dream happen. True ww2 jeeps are rare here in Canada and I have been looking for a project for a couple of years.
Any help I can get from this site would be greatly appreciated and I've furthered my knowledge a lot already by lurking in the forums drooling over the members projects!

I will gladly post pics when I pick it up in September; its a long road trip away and the seller was kind enough to let me come get it then as I am really busy with summer stuff through the end of August

You said you were looking for a "rougher" project. You weren't kidding, were you? I'm already in awe of your courage to tackle this one. I'm the one who's shamed--my 2A has never needed that much work  . Thanks for posting the teaser pic. I can't wait to see more! :D

Actually I've restored muscle cars and tractors in much worse shape. Just have to weld in a new floor pan and reattach the vowel at the factory spot welds.
The hood, grille and fenders are all in original paint and just need to be blasted, tweaked and painted.
The frame and chassis is all redone and painted so for me it's a good solid easy project. As you can see in the picture I posted the windshield has zero rust and the glass is not even cracked!

Oh, and both transfer cases and the brake system as well as the axles have been rebuilt too! Basically needs body work and paint.

Then I recommend you DO NOT set the glass down on carpeting and cover it with a towel (not even accidentally!) and then kneel on it. Now you can guess why there's a crack in the passenger-side glass of my windshield...
