Looking for '42-'44 MB Jeep

Post by Carolinamv » Tue Dec 09, 2014 2:12 pm

Hi,
I was told to ask here about looking for a nice '42-'44 Willys MB Jeep.
Im looking for one with the original tub, engine, correct trans etc. that's running and driving that I can enjoy. Nothing rare or things added like a .50 etc. , only the normal BII they would have come with new. Like I said I don't need a expensive rare MB just a good correct MB with its normal items. Please let me know if anyone has one and what ball park price would I pay for one? Thank you

I guess if its early. I wanted one that might have been in Europe during the war. So maybe an early one.

You guys know a lot more about what year and months would have made it before the war ended.

All the best for your search, positive war provenance adds $$$$$.
Correct numbered jeeps can be over $25k restored/complete running, or $10k or less projects.

That seems like a great deal on the 2nd one. Other issues I have is I don't know whats correct and original or not on any of them.

Ask them.
But remember, there are original G503s around, can demand a premium over others.
There are original G503s with correct WW2 parts, but not matching parts, nothing wrong here, the military mixed and matched, especially during rebuild programs.
Then there are G503s that have civilian post war engines, and or postwar T-90 transmissions. Again good running restored jeeps are nice, even with post war engines and.or trans.
Food for thought, the original T-84 was always a light duty transmission, good but light duty. The T-90 transmission (used on post war civilian jeeps and military M-38s and M-38a1s< heck I have put them behind v8s no issues) is much stronger and will not be subject to the issues of the T-84.
The post war engines are still the same design with minor differences, gear drive cam, and a few other things.
If you really want a driver, don't discount a jeep with a post war trans or engine, or even a 12volt conversion.
Jeeps that were used over seas are around, but the vast majority did not come back state side, most were rebuilt (jeep salads!) or parted out etc.
Get yourself Ren's book a good start on jeep info! https://www.vintagejeeps.com/pc-1295-26 ... guide.aspx
If your heart is set on a close to correct original jeep, great! Be ready to pay ! And plenty of jeepers have bought what they thought was correct and ended up doing a compete restoration.
Ask fellows here on the "G" about what you may be interested in, perhaps have someone go with you! We do like to help!
Where are you located?

Cheers, Ed S :)

I think the only thing I could add to a great breakdown by Ed is the suggestion to find out if there is a local chapter of the MVPA within driving distance and then join the National MVPA which will include a Bi Monthly magazine and possibly subscribe to Military Vehicle magazine as there is not only vehicles listed for sale but suppliers and great tech information, Alan. Oh and best of luck in your search.

Located in Colorado Springs CO

Im a member of the MVPA local chapter, not a national member.

I would like a guy who knows them very well to look one over with me. I will ask the seller as many questions as I can.

I do want one with the correct engine, trans, tub, 6V, etc , but I understand that parts were swapped and all during its Military service life , as long as the main parts are correct for the exact Jeep im buying.

I don't care if it went to Europe exactly, as long as it was made during the war years , that's why I was wanting a '42-'44 , so it could have seen service.

Gee, I didn't even know there was a chapter of the MVPA here in CO Spgs.! I've lived here for 23 years and somehow I missed it. Maybe they'll have a convention here some year and I won't have to go back to Ohio for it like I did in '06.

If/when you get one, I'd be interested in seeing it up close, if you're okay with that. Keep us informed here, please?
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
Alone cannot you it resist!
