NOS WO A-8188 temp gauges and NOS Stewart Warner Temp gauges (both of the correct length mind you!), along with NOS Slat Autolite Speedos are in the realm of "Un-obtanium" these days but if you post a CASH PRICE you are willing to pay for one....you could motivate someone in their rat-hole to come up with one...

Post a price you will pay for the right one and if that doesn't smoke out one of those rat-holes then you now know what they WON'T sell for!

The one i saw sell on ebay a few months back from seller 'jbizal' went for around the $450 mark from memory, tested as working. The tested as working is one of the biggest things to consider if you can ask, as i know even the modern repro ones occasionally dont work when new and are often tested before being sold if the dealer is reputable.

Hope this helps. Sorry, i dont have one to offer.

There are good working ones, not in NOS condition to be had- you might stand a better chance finding one of those.

The soldering of the capilar tube of NOS gauges can brittle due to age causing them to leak. Happens often. So a rebuild original can be something to consider.

Think that offer won't bring you a NOS one, these are rare. There is a french guy here on the G that does superb work i repairing. If you have a donor you get it in almost NOS condition back, working with guarantee.

Laurent does do a great job....but no one has ever posted what that resto of a SW Temp gauge costs:
Re-silkscreened face
Replaced with donor or repaired original capillary tube
Refilled with ether
Calibrated
New glass/gasket
Cleaned case

The guy in NL on Ebay "Westland" I think, sells the SW Temp gauges from some other vehicle as they have what looks to be a 60" capillary tube on them. At least all you would need to do is have Laurent shorten the capillary tube, refill and calibrate it.

He has them all the time....$299.00 buy it now.....add to that whatever Laurent wants to shorten and rebuild it to the "jeep length" and that would be an option.

Or....buy one that is non-working but complete and have everything above done to restore it....those can set you back over a hundred dollars also.

He doesn't want a stewart warner gauge Chuck, he wants an autolite original. Please read before you write something.

I have an idea but I do not price another persons parts. As most everyone should know actual WO-A-8188 Autolite temp gauges do not grow on trees.

Hi Nib,

There are quite a few speedo/gauge restoration places around in the US from what i read here on the g. I guess the likes of hemings car magazine or other similar magazines would have adverts, or the phone directory.

They would be able to fix it for you, but might not redo the face/the body of the gauge. you'd need to ask. I got a quote here in Sydney, Australia about 2 years ago for a gauge repair place of $120 to redo the capillary tube- take it off, put on a new bulb which goes into the engine head, fill with Ether or similar (liquid in the tube) put it together and test it.

I think if you do a search here on the G for speedo repair, you will find alot of shop names. I also did see that mid west military is doing speedo repair, so they might be doing other gauges too? Try contacting some of your local jeep guys/MV guys or any older vehicle guys to see where they have had gauges rebuild or repaired.

From what I hear, the problem with Laurent in France is he is often uncontactable. I think he has ALOT of work on, so emails arent a priority. I know for many this is frustrating and worrying as a set of your vehicles correct gauges are a costly thing to replace in any condition. When someone doing good work comes along in this hobby, they get swamped with the demand! As far as i know, the same thing happened to Sean who used to do MV gauges here in Australia too.

Cheers,
Ian.
