WTB - Pulley for Autolite GEG-5001-A generator

Post by Old Pal » Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:31 pm

I'm looking for a NOS or takeoff pulley for an Autolite GEG-5001-A generator. Mine broke during a rebuild.

FYI....the one Old Pal is looking for is the SP484-AS with the integral spacer on the rear of it which is very difficult to find.

(If you can't find one now, go with an SP494-A and get the Spacer used on the GEG-5002 or GEG-5101 model)

The one that was pulled off was sp 484 and stamped C A on the opposite side of the pulley. I think I found one on eBay but it's from you know who in the Netherlands.

Does anybody know of any companies that I could call that may have one of these? Does Ron deal at all in take-off or NOS parts?

As I haven't found a suitable pulley, I am going to attempt to weld this beast. Cast iron can be a beast to weld, however, I'm a bit worried about balance. Does anybody know what RPM these things spin up to?

Post a pic of the damage to yours....if the fan belt won't come off then you may get by with balancing the pulley so it does not eat the bearing on the Drive Head. You might be able to run with it until a suitable replacement shows up.

Old Pal:

My WW II MB generator cheat sheet shows you need a pulley marked SP-484 (W.O. part # A-1639) without any spacer to use on your Auto-Lite GEG-5001-A generator (W.O. A-1246). This is the same pulley that came off your generator. Chuck, are you mistaking Old Pal's early generator for a late war GEG-5010D generator that uses a SP-484A pulley (W.O. # A-9492) with spacer GEG-31 (W.O. # A-8842)?

Hi Fred...

The 5001 pulley had an integral spacer in it
The 5002/5101 pulley had a separate spacer

The one with a separate spacer is the SP484A

I don't have a WO pulley for a GEG-5001A to look at so you might be correct about what is marked on it. In any case...the correct one does not have the spacer cast into it.

Now that you mention it...I think the SP484AS is the number for the ASSEMBLY which consists of the SP484 pulley and the separate spacer....

good catch Fred!

I think the dimension to look at is "M". The ones that are .465 would need the spacer, the ones that are .093 would not I believe.
