Steering Sector Shaft Pins?

Post by Bill M » Sun Jan 26, 2014 5:27 pm

Hello all,
I am looking for NOS sector shaft pins.
I believe these were manufactured postwar and are not a SNL catalogue item.
I am aware Marathon Spares sold these, looking for alternate source.
any leads appreciated.
Bill.

Bill, the "old school" repair is to knock the pins out and rotate them 180-degrees then weld them back in. They only wear on the side towards the worm. I have not seen loose pins on the market here in modern times....... -RG

Hi Bill,

Maybe Ian Thorburn up here in Sydney? I'll PM you his number if you don't have it?

However, I remember Ian saying he has done/does/could do the same thing as Richard suggested, but worth a try none the less.

Cheers,
Ian.

rotate them 180-degrees then weld them back in
These pins are swaged in place on the originals for a reason.
They are not welded.
I would not recommend welding anything in this critical safety area plus be aware if turned 180* the wear spots would be in the same relative positions. You can get a good new sector shaft for about USD70 & it would be money well spent.

Understand how system parts interact with one another. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement.

Rotate them 90 degrees, let a professional do the welding.
