WTB GPA axels
Anyone, have an extra GPA axle, front or rear for sale. I'm asking in this forum intentionally cause they occasionally show up on GPW and MB's as a result of depot (and civilian) rebuilds.
I have some MB front and rear axles for trade. David

I have a super nice complete rear axle for the GPA that looks to be very little used. It was installed on a 1945 GPW that came out of the Norwegian army. I suspect that they did the change....
The shippment might be expensive, but it is not a problem to ship it.
Cheers,
Frank..

A couple of guys emailed me and asked how a GPA axle differs from a standard GPW axle:
Below is a photo of a standard GPW rear axle. Notice how narrow the end of the diff is where the drive shaft exits.
Below is a GPA axle photo'd from the side showing the where the axle exits from the diff. Notice the large drive shaft tube cover. It butts up close to a large flange cast into the GPA diff. There is actually a rubber boot in between the ends anyway it is the large drive shaft receiving flange that is the dead give-away that you have a GPA axle.
The front axle diff also has a large flair to receive the front drive shaft tube cover.
I'm looking for the large flange type axles. David

Re: WTB GPA axels
I know this is an old post, but can anyone tell me the other differences in a GPA and GPW rear axle assembly. Aside from the difference in the casting for the housing where the drive shaft and outer tube connect, are all other parts same as GPW like axle shafts, drums and brake shoes, differential gears etc. Any help appreciated. Best wishes; Leo

Re: WTB GPA axels
Hi Leo,
The only differences that I can recall are as follows:
1) The casting for the pumpkin is different to accommodate the seal from the axle to the drive tube.
2) The shock mounts are different and are at a different location on the axle and are welded on the axle tube which also means that the spring mount location is different than on a GPW axle.
3) The GPA has a special double seal where the normal grease seal is to try and keep water out of the axle.
4) The vent tube has a special fitting that allows a hose assembly to be fitted from the axle vent to the hull.
Otherwise everything is the same as what is in a GPW axle. The same gears, brake components, etc.
Hope that helps,
Donovan.

I know this is an ancient ad, but are you still looking for a gpa rear axle?
