Sean,

There are two types of M2 Decontaminator brackets:

Factory Brackets provided by the following manufacturers of the M2:

* General Detroit (similar to some of the civilian General Detroit 1.5 qt extinguisher brackets)
* Fyr-Fyter (similar to some of the civilian Fyr-Fyter 1.5 qt extinguisher brackets)
* Badger (simplified wire type bracket unique to the M2)

Universal Bracket with Two Straps designed to accomodate all brands of M2s (these are available as reproductions from parts dealers).

I'd play it safe and buy a universal bracket if you're looking at the late war under seat application.

Thanks for the reply!
I have an original wire bracket, would this be appropriate to attach? Id prefer to have the factory one, i guess. Also, My jeep did not have the lube chart. Is there any correlation between not having this original and not having the bracket attached at the factory? I mean I know a lot of these things were added in the field, and was wondering if the decontaminator bracket was a field add-on.

Thanks,
Sean

If you have the (unique) wire type bracket for the Badger M2 you have a rare bracket... But it only fits the equally rare Badger M2. Most wire type brackets I've seen were 1950s vintage for civilian 1.5 qt extinguishers. Your M2 brand will determine the bracket you need (unless you go with the "universal" type I mentioned).

The underseat provision for the decontaminator became "factory" at around MB321513 (April, 1944) per Lawrence Nabholz research. Even so, all Willys did was provide six holes in the floor and six corresponding mounting screws -- NOT the decontaminator assembly itself.

The under hood Lube Chart Holder was "factory" in "late '44" per Nabholz.

Prior to being factory features these provisions were added in the field by units. You'll see pics of the decontaminators mounted to the fender slopes (for example) and "field made" (metal strap) lube chart holders under the hood as well.

Hey!
I finally found my NOS decontaminator, and here it is.

This is the bracket I was talking about. I have another, and I will photo it later.

You said something about the strap model lube chart holder.. I have a supposedly NOS one with F markings. Is this original?

My jeep seems to be weird.. It has the holes for a decontaminator, has the 2 post tire carrier with foot rest, It has the early push pull light switch, DOES NOT have the 4th data plate or 1st aid kit at all.. No evidence of there ever being one either. It also does not have the rear crossmember reenforcements as found on late Jeeps. I don't know what to make of my Jeep.

Thanks,
Sean

My apologies Sean... I had "Badger" on the brain -- I meant "Buffalo". Yes, that's the rare Buffalo M2 and it's unique wire bracket -- great find.

Not sure about the "F"-scripted Lube Chart holders -- hopefully someone else will chime in on that.

Would this be appropriate for my June 44 MB? I have another bracket, I will get a picture of that as well.

Thanks!
