Brake problem

Postby Kenny Grantham » Mon Jul 23, 2007 5:16 am

I have a 69 A5 and was wondering what could be making my brakes lock up rolling backwards. If you press the brakes backing up they have a tendency to lock up. Just going back, not forward. It locks so hard and fast it will about give you whiplash, and whatever you do, don't hit the brakes rolling off the trailer.

Kenny,

Have you dropped the front of the drive shaft and pulled off the brake hub?

If not, You should do this to take a look to see what is going on.

It could be anything from a spring popped off to a oil seal leak.

Sounds a lot like a broken spring. Basically using the weight of the mule or the force of the mule to push the break into the drum harder. Again, it sounds like something is loose in there to me.

Open it up and take some pictures.
