4-cylinder/ 2-cylinder question

Postby Robin » Fri Jun 08, 2007 6:11 pm

My M274A2 came with a 2 cylinder engine. My question is will a 4 cylinder engine bolt up without any modifications? There is a Willys mule engine near me that the guy wants to sell, but I only want it if it will fit.

It will bolt-up to the transaxle, but there are other things you will have to change, for example, the 4-cyl mules had 2 mufflers.
I personally would not go to the 4-cyl engine. Has your 2-cyl engine failed? Long blocks are available, if your engine still has all it's shrouds, etc. that make it unique to the mule. Recommend that you call Bill Watson (336) 697-4020 and see what he can do for you on a 2-cyl AO-42 engine.

Jeeze Chuck,
I like my 4 cyl mule. More horses and it is made by Willys!

If your mule is an A5 you would have to drill holes for the extra muffler.
If it is any other, you dont. You can also lower the deck if its not an A5.

But alas, Chuck is right, if it had a 2 cyl it would be wise to keep it that way.
