I found a conversion for the Companion Bearing Washer that sits between the nut and the bearing. The TM part number is MS27183-23 and they can be found at Fastenal under part number 9900097. I found this out of neccessity since John Emory told me today he was out of them and would have to look for some take offs. Unfortunately mine is completely missing and must be replaced. Fastenal price was $3.98 + tax and shipping but the good news is they can be found and are usually located in a town near you. Should you decide to make your own the size is .812 I.D. by 1.469 O.D. by .134 thick made from steel. Hope this helps someone like it did me.

For those of you who may be wanting a local source for U-Joints. I had to buy one today and found it at O'Reillys under the Federal-Mogal brand of Precision Universal Joints. The part number I chose was "Precision 341AG". It has the same .9375 diameter cap in all 4 places and measures 2.411 overall. It is the direct replacement for Spicers series 1100 according to the guy at the counter. The "AG" designation uses a 90 degree grease zerk like the original and is located in the center of the cross. If you purchase just a "341 joint" it will come greasable but uses a straight zerk that is located between the caps. I should have everything back together this weekend if I get my chores done and will post the results. Fit, clearance of zerk etc.

Got them in today and the fit was great. Made in the USA and the grease zerk hole was located in the middle of the cross as it should be. The only issue was that the zerk is not at 90 degrees. It is actually about 75 degrees so I used the old grease zerks which fit just fine with no clearance issues. Probably would have been fine with the 75 degree zerks but figured I would just stay with the 90 degree.

Here is a pic of the differences. Only the angle of the grease zerk and it does not interfere with anything.

NAPA numbers -wheel hub

Postby charles fitton » Wed Aug 29, 2012 8:56 am

Is there anything special about the "preformed packing" used in the wheel hubs, or is this just Army Speak for "O"rings? Is the size known? And is the seal inside the hub is National 473455?

Standard rubber O-rings. The small one on the axle nut is 1/8" x 1-3/8"OD and the big one on the hub is 3/16" x 1-7/8" OD. There is no seal inside the hub, but the hub seal that goes inside the knuckle housing is a Nationa 473455 for the steer axle and a National 715100 for the non-steer axle.

I sell a package that has the small O-ring, the large O-ring and the axle nut retaining roll pin for $4 per wheel + Shipping, runs about $19 total for a set of 4, PM me if you are interested.
