Re: Valve Position Plate
My Brunswick A5 has no number on the plate. I believe it to be original, but it looks like the first two pictures, not overall aluminum like the third pic. Tom

Re: Valve Position Plate
Just checked the plate on my A2 and it has no part number. Have not had a chance to look at the late A5.
I am pretty sure that the black plate with aluminum lettering is a reproduction. All original plates that I have seen are aluminum with black letters. I've even see a reproduction plate that was black with RED lettering!

Re: Valve Position Plate
After a long search, the elusive Valve Data Plate with the number in the bottom corner has been located. John Emery said it really did exist and he was right. One of our members (Rosie) took this picture and was kind enough to e-mail it to me. I have sent a copy to John so he can finally finish his plates. I think this was the last one he needed. Re: Valve Position Plate
Just as an FYI,
The red on black valve instruction plate, PN# 11591950 came with the Retro-fit kits converting M274 to M274A3 or M274A1 to M274A4, also the Instruction & Caution Plate and Vehicle Data Plate were red on black with the kits (see below). I have a bastard Baifield A5 (John E thinks a late Mr Grove machine) with the red on black valve instruction plate and an M274A2, BMY 1965 that is original that has a plate with no part# on the face. Sometimes with military data plates the part number is on the back side of the plate painted. Thanks for posting the pix of the part number on the face of plate!! Is that plate with part number on face from an A5? TIA

No clue. Rosie said it came from a Baifield Industries, Emtex Division delivered 4/68.

Very Interesting! Your Installation Instructions drawings are something of a missing link in the Mule history.Guest 1 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 5:51 amJust as an FYI,

I'm trying to collaborate to find out more about the M274A3s, since my 'Frankenmule' appears to be (mostly) an A3. Chuck, Charles, John, and I are hoping to nail down, among other information:
- Who built them -- Kaiser Jeep Corporation and possibly BMY.
- When they were built (or modified to A3) -- That's where your installation instruction sheet helps! I see dates from 1964 to 1966 noted there.
- Other Data Plate info -- Mfr. Serial Numbers, U.S.A. and/or USMC Registration Numbers, Dates of Delivery, etc.
Chuck's dataplate database is short on original M274s, only has a very few A3s, and he could always add more mules, so I encourage everyone to send him info from mules you have or run across, even off the web. And any contract information, such as your Retro-kit instructions, helps as well.
I've discovered a trove of info on Mules (and other military vehicles) from a National Archives database of Vietnam equipment losses from 1967 to 1970. The listing adds over 600 serial numbers of M274s, A1s, A2s, A3s, and A4s (but no A5s!), though presumably all were 'written off' or cannibalized, so won't be around these days. I'll share how to access that info in a separate post.
I hope we can all continue to work together to consolidate and share our knowledge of these unique vehicles.
