How much weight can you put on a mule front axle?
I have a big heavy camping trailer with about 900# weight on the ball, have a very tight spot I wanted to park it. My Ford pickup is too long, so I was doing some eyeball engineering about putting a ball hitch on the front of my mule. Has anyone done this, and what might break?

Caution:
What might break?
The top axle gear will break at the keyway if overloaded. If it breaks then it could bust out the DG housing. It would be better if it where a gooseneck then you could center it on the mule.
You could put a heavy duty swivel wheel on the jack then it could carry most to some of the tongue weight while connected to the mule.

A wheel to carry the weight can be done, but I want some weight on the front hitch to give me more traction because I am pushing a 6,000# trailer up a fairly steep driveway. Do you think 400# would be too much load?

I would try it you will need some weight for traction

I've seen your driveway and the trailer. I'll be surprised if the Mule can push that trailer up there.
