Passenger Foot Basket
Can somebody give me the dimensions for a passenger foot basket. I know it's a little narrower than the drivers side but I don't know by how much. If anybody knows the wall thickness of the tubing that would be good too but I can wing it on that one if necessary. Center to center of the top rail is what I'm looking for here. I'm dying to try my tube bending skills. I will probably use 4130 chrome moly tubing because it tig welds nice. I think I read where Lance said it was a 2 1/2 inch radius but I think he used a 3" die and his looked great. Thanks much

Re: Passenger Foot Basket
I have a couple of the ones Lance makes. Please contact him for dimensions as he may have a drawing. If not and he OKs I will gladly dimension and post. His attaches nicely and removes easily. You will have to relocate the choke cable and the easy place is next to the ignition switch or below on the front support assy.

Yes I fabricate it out of 2" schedule 80 iron pipe and it is mounted to the bed support tube using the 4ea 3/8" bolts. Strong enough to lift the mule off the ground, push over/through saplings and brush and as a passenger foot rest if a 2nd seat is added.

Re: Passenger Foot Basket
I've searched the Mule forum for info regarding passenger side foot basket, have sent a request to Mr Lance as I'm also thinking of building one myself....

Re: Passenger Foot Basket
Sorry, but there are no drawings. I make them in place on the mule with a pattern.

They are beautiful which is what inspired me to make my own when I read Lances article on his mule restoration.

Re: Passenger Foot Basket
I finally got my passenger foot basket done. I formed the bottom bar from one solid piece of 4130 chrome moly tubing, 1 inch diameter by .065 wall thickness. It takes almost 7 feet of tubing. I turned another smaller tube that would fit inside the 1" and before making the last bend I slid that tube inside the first. Drilled two holes and took an ice pick and slid the inner tube over and rosette welded it in place through the holes.
Here's the mount for the top bar and bottom bar. The top is just a piece of 1" aluminum channel that I milled on the ends for the radius of the bends in the top bar. Bottom is a piece of angle with a hollow tube 1/2" in diameter and threaded 3/8 course thread and welded to the angle. Drilled a hole in the bottom bar and when I hang it on the channel it swings down and the tube slides inside the bottom bar. I welded a heavy washer to a 3/8 bolt, cut the head off and turned it down round and then bent it over. I had to turn out two 1/4 inch thick spacers to go behind the lower mount to clear that silly looking bulge in the bottom rail that nobody can come up with a use for. I didn't want to grind it away.
Tractor supply has the expanded metal that I welded on the bottom and they are pretty dang proud of a 24X24 inch piece of it too!! Painted it Marine Corp Green and it's good to go.

Re: Passenger Foot Basket
Beautifully done and a great addition plus looks easy to remove. Where did you relocate your choke? A convenient place is next to the ignition switch
