Tow bar material

Post by jeeptj1 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 3:14 am

Ive seen the articles on how to make the tow bars and they were really good. My question is what is used for the tow bar tubing. Is It anything that fits the size requirements or does it need to be special tubing? Would black iron water pipe work? Thanks john jr

The black iron pipe is thicker than the specs, but the problem would be in the OUTSIDE diameter as you need to weld on the collars for the tow bar pins, and the all important swivel and its retaining sleeves at the loop end. There is a great article about sizes of the pipe, lengths, and sleeves and the loop on the mule tech page.

Have one we could bring to Aberdeen in May.
Figure $150, but it's dirty (sat in mud) and I'd have to assess that value based on work to clean it up.
