Hello, my A2 is missing the hour meter. what is the correct meter for an A2 and in what location? ? i have seen lots of pictures with them on the rear but the manual i have says it should be on top of the engine next to the govenor. Thanks in advance. i look forward to learning more here

The early AO42 engines used a mechanical hour meter attached to the engine between the magneto and governor. The later engines used an electrical magneto powered hour meter that mounted on the right rear using the 2 bolts that mount the rear hand rail. An electrical Y connector is used to tap into the magneto kill wire. My choice is the electrical hour meter as the mechanical if not set up correctly caused the brass teeth on the hour meter driven gear and or the nylon teeth on the governor drive coupling to strip.

Do you have a pic of how the electrical one is connected - just noticed that mine is no longer connected and doesn't seem to have a corresponding connector. M274A4 with the two cyclinder

The Wire below is the Y Connector used for the Hour Meter connection. The long lead attaches to the Hour Meter and the short leads to the Magneto and Wire from the Switch.

Bear in mind that not just any electric hour meter will work, must be 4 VDC or less, and they can be very hard to find. Here's one that looks to be the right voltage:
