M274 Mule For Sale *price lowered*
Gents,
I have for sale a recently acquired mule. DOD 4-60, M274 Mule. Still mostly original including the 4 cyluder motor. I purchased this from the son of a gentleman who bought it out of surplus in the 80's in Huntsville,AL. He had it parked in his garage, and unfortunately passed away a couple years ago and his son decided to let it go. I, unfortunately, cannot keep it. He had already done some sanding on the deck to repaint it, so I finished that, cleaned the whole mule up and painted it to its original USMC paint scheme. New stencils bought through Rick Larson. Drivers seat was missing so a new seat and cushions were purchased through Mechanical Mules of America. The slots in the deck for the seat back have widened up toward the back over the years, so he added a 1" square tube bar behind the seat back to brace it up. The seat is still removable. The deck is in good condition, typical pitting from age. He did fill a few spots with bondo and sand them down but doesn't appear to be anything big. I replaced the shift knobs, and it shifts well, however I think the detent ball needs cleaning, it keeps popping out of 2nd if you don't hold the lever. Stays in all other gears no problem. I removed all the wheels and hubs, re-packed all the bearings and replaced all the seals in the hubs. New dust boots as well. Brand new Coker tires and tubes all the way around. New battery. Has an electric start. Runs well, I just replaced the points. Has 166 hours on the meter. I have driven it around my lot with no issues. Fuel tank was cleaned and ran new lines with a new fuel filter. It is a great Mule that could still use a few more things to make it 100% original, or just use it exactly as it is! Asking $6500 obo and located in Chattanooga, TN. If you have any questions you can message me here or email me at: TNYankee82@yahoo.com Thanks!
*forgot to mention it is also a 4 wheel steer"

Re: M274 Mule For Sale
What kind of electric starter is on your four cylinder Mule? Can you provide some details?

I'm really not sure, it was on there when I bought it. I don't see any markings.

Re: M274 Mule For Sale
the electric start looks like the one that John Emery offers.
Our 2 work very nicely too.

How correct is it and what isn't correct? Are there any parts missing? I'm serious about buying it but I don't know a lot about them

We have a '58 m274, that we have just restored. So I've been pretty intimate with an early mule recently. IF I would take the time to figure out how to post pictures, I would share a few. It appears that the foot basket has had expanded steel welded onto it, but is the correct foot basket. Plus it has all the dataplates!
The pix do not show the hand crank, tow bar or engine guard. It appears that the front deck hatch may be wrong. The engine looks correct. All in all, it looks like a really nice start to a rare mule!
