Ok, I put new needle bearing in the top hole of the cover, but it would not fit over the axle shaft end, so I got another new needle bearing, it fit ok over the axle shaft end.I even tried tapping the cover on a little bit, wouldn't budge. So I guess tomorrow I'll fill the bearing hole full of grease, try to get it out of the cover that way, now I tapped the bearing into cover with a rubber hammer,
which there should be a little pressure fit.So I don't know,
Aw, gotta go, hope someone can tell me what I did wrong?

Re: needle bearing in cover
There is a front and back to the bearing, it must be installed the right way, and you must use an installer: Check this thread: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=238840&p=1399529&h ... r#p1399362

Re: needle bearing in cover
Thanks Chuck for the info, I never would have thought there is a front, back to the bearing, the only installer I have is shaft turned to the inside hole diameter of the bearing, which I use a hammer to tap it on.

Re: needle bearing in cover
I think I found out why after installing axle shaft needle bearing, it was going on hard, the drop gear cover is bent, after removing the axle needle bearing, I set it in axle hub, it would not go on unless I beat it on with rubber hammer, so it is bent somehow, so I guess for now the RF wheel will be freewheeling.I wonder if a machine shop could straighten it?

E-Mail sent
I could send you another Steering Gear Cover with the Needle Bearings installed for you to try before going to a machine shop. If that does not work then lets try another Axle Shaft. I have not run across a bent Gear Cover as it is held in place by 10 5/16 studs-bolts and 2 dowel pins. But anything could happen Murphy's Law.
If the Cover works you will have to check the preload on the Driven Gear and Steering Knuckle Bearings.

Re: needle bearing in cover
Ok,the drop gear cover wasn't bent, the axle shaft was ok,I think when I used a rubber hammer put the needle bearing in cover/wouldn't fit.Took it out, used a press to install it, it fit. Why?? But it fits now, aw, these novice mule mechanics!!!
