Steering Wheel

Post by atavuss » Fri Mar 27, 2015 9:29 pm

My A5's steering wheel is cracked around the center, Emery has repop steering wheels, any other alternatives? Any tips to remove the steering wheel from the splined column shaft? I tried tapping on the bottom of the steering wheel with a large plastic mallet and the wheel did not budge.

I also had difficulty trying to get mine off. I gave up before I did some major damage. There are kits for repairing the wheel. They come with a filler you mix and cleaner. Worked well for me. Eastman is the company I got mine from. About 30.00 Painted it with black epoxy spray I got at the auto store. I have also used JB weld but the Eastman kit does a better job. My wheel turned out very nice. Good luck on yours.

You need to use a steering wheel puller, here's a link to a discussion on pullers: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=236903&p=1389542&h ... r#p1389542
Here's a link to Mike White's mule page and a steering wheel puller that he made: http://www.whiteworks.us/TheMule/projec ... uller.html

The CJ2A through CJ5 and M38/M38A1 steering wheels are the same and will work on the mule.

The search function is your friend!

I try and use the search function each time I need to research something on Mules here, went through several pages looking for information on the steering wheels and did not see the topics you posted Chuck........

The search function it a little hard to use, seems to only search on one word, so you need to try several different words to make sure you cover all bases. I think I searched with "puller" instead of steering wheel.
